Julia Ringer

 Julia Ringer graduated as a Textile/ Art teacher in 1979, and once retired, ‘graduated’ from Advanced Creative Stitch in 2020. 

Tending to work by researching and sampling themes chosen for study, for example, ‘Lost and Found’: and the use of historical textiles is a thread throughout. Recently, using 1930’s, ‘make do and mend’, and currently, Medieval textiles.

Machine and hand stitched work is preferred to create tactile, textural pieces using fibres and other materials.

Framed piece worked with 1930’s fine organza weight fabric techniques in an embroidery frame. To follow the theme of Design source: The ballet dancer and the Dressmaker painting , 1934.

 


From the 1930’s film Pygmalion, an interpretation of Eliza Doolittle’s evening jacket for the Ball: paper and silk flowers on a lightweight woollen jacket, with couture features.

A set of 3 items based on a single form of different scale, to the title of ‘Hear no evil, See no evil, Speak no Evil’

Wall hanging measuring 75cm x 140cm using recycled lightweight fabrics, hand dyed in madder, weld and woad, featuring breakdown printing, piping, cords, and tucks. Based on the Boragi technique.
