Spotlight on............Avril Court

Image
Avril was born in Birmingham and grew up in Quinton as one of six children and has always been interested in art. In fact at school she used to miss lessons to paint the history wall. Her first job was for a photographic company printing the negatives and then moved to a shop equipment company illustrating, printing the advertising the goods, even repairing and painting the fibreglass models. Since then, she has worked for Worcester County Council and Suffolk County Council in the printing offices and enjoyed teaching as a driving instructor and tested her artistic bent by doing a hairdressing course. Before moving to Suffolk she did an Access to Art course for a year at Malvern College which was really interesting, this included, art, sculpture, bookbinding, sketchbook, embroidery and ended with a super exhibition. Following on from this idea of entwinement Avril developed the theme into work done based on the Snakes and Ladders game. Some of the work in progress is shown below.

Spotlight Textiles has 8 members and over the next few weeks we would like to introduce them to you. Several are already well known in the East Anglian Textile world and members of other active organisations and groups.  However for some members this is an opportunity to introduce them and their work into the exciting new arena of making and exhibiting textile art.
