Spotlight Textiles

  Mary McIntosh is using her stash of vintage lace, including some from her great Grandmother's bloomers, to inspire her work for the 'Spotlight on....Heritage' exhibition. Claire Pulham is using imagery from the Tower of London including the famous ravens as her inspiration for the series of work produced for the forthcoming 'Spotlight on....Heritage 'exhibition. These two pieces were exhibited at Textiles East Fair and will be joined by further pieces in the exhibition at Snape Maltings from 28th April until 3rd May 2023  

  Spotlight Textiles make up 'Inspiration Packs' of fabrics, threads and other sewing notions to offer for sale at exhibitions. We are often asked "What can I do with it?" so this year each member of the group selected a pack and used the contents to make something as an example.  The results are a real variety of items, from bags, cushions, framed pieces and this 3D item made by the talented Julia Ringer entitled 'Woodland Wendy' This is a pack similar to the one used to make 'Woodland Wendy'. Each one contains a dyed cotton fat quarter   This year, to link to the title of our exhibition 'Spotlight on....Heritage' we are also offering packs of vintage fabric, lace and old sewing notions. These contain a fat quarter of an old damask table cloth. Mary used one of these packs for her inspiration sample including a half finished piece of cross stitch. Rose Merton has lived in the UK for many years but is originally from Holland and is using the traditional image of the tulip in her series of work for the 'Spotlight on....Heritage' exhibition You will be able to see Rose's design work in her sketchbook as well a the completed series of work using vintage fabrics, block printing and much more. Friday 28th April until 3rd May 2023 at the Pond Gallery, Snape Maltings, IP17 1SP  

  In her own inimitable way Avril is using beloved 50's and 60's children's TV sows as the inspiration for her series of work. This small piece showing Pinky and Perky was shown at Textiles East Fair in February. Come along to the 'Spotlight on ....Heritage' exhibition at the Pond Gallery, Snape Maltings from 28th April to 3rd May to see a whole imaginative series of work by Avril.

 Julia Ringer is using her sketchbook to explore ways of conveying her ongoing research into Anglo Saxon artefacts, crafts and materials. This is preparation for her series of work for the forthcoming exhibition 'Spotlight on....Heritage' at the Pond Gallery, Snape Maltings IP17 1SP from 28th April until 3rd May 2023 Julia's sketchbook design work will on display as well as the finished textile art pieces so visitors can see the whole process

  Karen Bowe is producing a whole series of pieces using tartan and lots of hand stitching. Come along to see the result at the 'Spotlight on....Heritage' exhibition at the Pond Gallery, Snape Maltings, Aldeburgh IP17 1SP from 28th April until 3rd May 2023.   Yvonne has been using tweed as her 'heritage' fabric to create work for the Spotlight Textiles exhibition 'Spotlight on....Heritage' showing at the Pond Gallery, Snape Maltings IP17 1SP from 28th April until 3rd May 2023 Expect to see a whole series of work from Yvonne using repurposed former pieces and a range of vintage fabric - just lovely!

  Spotlight Textiles will also offer inspiration packs in lots of colour combinations - each one containing a fat quarter of a hand dyed cotton fabric plus lots of additional fabrics, threads and notions - a bargain at £5. These will be on sale, along with a large exhibition of new work at the exhibition 'Spotlight on.....Heritage' at the Pond Gallery, Snape Maltings IP17 1SP from Friday 28th April until Wed 3rd May 2023

Vintage lace for inspiration packs At the Spotlight Textiles exhibition 'Spotlight on....Heritage' showing at the Pond Gallery, Snape Maltings IP17 1SP from Friday 28th April until Wed 3rd May we will be offering a series of work using an 'inherited' or vintage recycled fabric. Each Spotlight member will several pieces of work to show. In addition we will be offering inspiration packs of vintage fabrics for visitors to buy - a bargain at £5 per pack - and create their own masterpiece
